Sample Essay 33

Task: Nowadays adults do little exercises. Some people believe that the best way to address this issue is by covering great sporting events such as the Olympics on Television. Others think that it is more beneficial to take other measures. What is your opinion?

Student’s Response: Lack of exercise and a sedentary lifestyle are two of the biggest contributors of poor health outcomes in the 21st century. We live in a world where technology has made everything accessible at our doorstep, thereby avoiding the need to be physically active. There are several measures that can and should be implemented to combat this issue.

Some people believe promoting sporting events on television, for example the Olympics, can motivate people to be more active. However, I personally don’t think this may be the most effective strategy because watching seasoned athletes in competitive sports, while it can invoke a great sense of appreciation, can also put people off physical activity altogether. Less physically active people often need realistic goals as a starting point. These would include introducing exercise slowly and ensuring they are well informed about how to sustain such practices.

On the other hand, there are also people believe we need to tackle physical activity on a wider scale. From my own learned experience of having put this into practice at my workplace, I believe opportunistic promotion of physical activity is best implemented at workplaces. This can be done through introducing interactive workshops where everyone is encouraged to participate or even setting up well-being meetings educating people of the benefits of exercise. One can also use media constructively to advertise the benefits of doing exercise. This can be done in the form of infomercials or introducing free virtual classes on social media platforms.

In conclusion, I am of the opinion that exercise is an integral part of a healthy lifestyle and it is very important to stay physically active to optimise our health. We need to ensure that practical and sustainable measures are enforced in order to motivate people to become more active.
